He Came Amongst Us
This quote from Chris Matthews discussing his interview with the president really says it all: “He came to us today. He came amongst us.” Chris “tingles up his leg” Matthews is awe-inspired by the fact that the Anointed One came down from his Heavenly perch and spoke to his most ardent supporters at MSNBC.
Give me a break. This idolization of Obama is unhealthy. He is our president, elected to protect our Constitution, he isn't a God. So many in the liberal media want to treat him as such. Matthews has already declared Obama to be “perfect,” which is why it is impossible for people like him to comprehend how Obama failed so miserably when it comes to ObamaCare.
Gallup polling out today finds that 52% of Americans support scaling back or repealing ObamaCare. The numbers continue to slide out of Obama's favor. I've told you about his huge loss of support among Millenials. A majority disapprove of the president and would go as far as to remove him from office. A majority also disapprove of ObamaCare. A recent United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection poll finds the following among Millenials: “18 percent of respondents in this age group said it was 'very likely' ObamaCare would be repealed by Congress next year, while 33 percent said it was 'somewhat likely' the law would be done away with.” It's not that they want ObamaCare to be repealed but they expect it to be repealed.
But this is where we are, and judging by the stories I'm about to share here, Democrats are still in a heap of trouble, despite their best efforts to appear calm, positive and united.
Mistletoe Sale Gets 11-year-old Girl Booted From Portland Market
This past weekend, Madison Root, an 11-year-old from Portland was removed from a Portland market for selling mistletoe. Ashton Root, Madison's father, joined Sean on the NewsMaker Hotline to discuss the incident. "She had an idea to make some money to help pay for her braces,’’ said her father. A private security guard for the market told Madison and her dad that they were violating city code (specifically Chapter 20.12.020, “Soliciting For or Conducting Business” in a public park). Under the rule, it's illegal to “sell or offer to sell any article or service” without a permit. "There were people right next to me with signs that said, 'Got pot?' said Madison who was on the phone with her father. "They're raising money for pot!" "We understand the rule,' Ashton said. "But here she was selling mistletoe and all around her were people playing music for money, or asking for money for pot, or just spare change. We’re allowing people to beg, but not to sell; it seems like there should be some sort of exception." For more on this story please click here.
Is Barack Obama aware that he is the Commander-in-Chief and not a salesman? Today marks a new concerted effort on the part of this administration to sell ObamaCare to the American people. They still think their main problem is their sales pitch.
The problem is that Healthcare.gov still isn't up to private sector standards. The failure of the website to handle traffic is absurd, but there is another bigger issue for those who have already attempted to use the site. According to the Washington Post, as many as one-third of people who think they've enrolled in ObamaCare may not actually be covered come January 1st. That's right – mistakes in the enrollment forms could effect as many as one-third of those who think they've signed up for coverage.
Americans are having a hard time trusting government right now as it is. The fact that their information is not secure doesn't exactly entice people into giving up their most private information. This system relies on a need for trust, which is currently absent. And unfortunately for Americans, and politically for Democrats, things are likely to get worse. As Marc Thiessen in the Washington Post writes, the website is not really the problem. He's absolutely right. The website is nothing more than a reflection of incompetence, but the underlying issues of ObamaCare are what Americans are stressing about and what Democrats will be held accountable for in 2014.
But if we hunker down and wait until 2017, ObamaCare will work splendidly by then, right? Wrong. By then, if not repealed, we will simply have resigned ourselves to the mediocrity of our new government-run healthcare system. Democrats would rather us “settle” for ObamaCare than fight for better coverage, better care, more competition and a lower costs.
Here are some stories about ObamaCare that I'm almost positive the president will not be touting on his sales tour...
More Website Work Remains
Sean welcomed Washington insider Jamie Dupree to Tuesday's show to discuss the ongoing work on the disastrous HealthCare.gov website. Dupree explained that while many improvements to the site have been made, there is still quite of work left to be done. Federal officials acknowledged that more work is needed on the "back end" of the site, to make sure that consumers actually get health coverage and that insurance companies get the information they need to start those policies. However, The Washington Post reported that "enrollment records for a significant portion" of those who have signed up on healthcare.gov could contain errors, affecting "roughly one-third" of enrollees. To read Jamie Dupree's column on WSBRadio.com click here.
There is virtually nothing that the Left isn't willing to politicize, and that includes holidays. Obama's Organizing for America is trying to make ObamaCare a part of your Thanksgiving celebration. They are encouraging Americans to discuss ObamaCare talking points around the dinner table.
There's no doubt that ObamaCare may be a point of discussion amongst families, but not for the reason Obama propagandists would like. Millions of Americans are facing the prospect of lost coverage, losing their doctors or re-working their budgets to account for the increased price of premiums. Americans may be consuming turkey this Thanksgiving, but they aren't buying OFA's ObamaCare baloney.
Do have any idea where the president is right now? He is out West, in Hollywood and elsewhere, fundraising for Democrats. With all of the troubles he is facing and a new self-imposed ObamaCare deadline looming, it's a bit absurd that this is what the president has time for. Remember last week when he couldn't attend a commemoration for the 150th anniversary for the Gettysburg address? Obama finds time for what is convenient and what he wants to do, but not necessarily for what is always best for the country.
Obama's trip out West is nothing more than an attempt to distract from the real failures of his administration. If you'll notice, he's still trying (and failing) to push immigration reform to the forefront of the conversation. The Hill points out the White House has apparently attempted to pivot – for the fifth time this year – to the economy. It notes that this is a transparent attempt to shift the focus from ObamaCare and the disastrous rollout of the exchanges.
More Government Waste
It's astounding the amount of wasted money that our government manages to spend on pointless projects.
CNS News has two more examples of outrageous spending.
First, we have the Department of Education which spent $20.3 million to fight “isms.” That's right, over the last three years we've spent over $20 million to help school boards fight “all of the –isms, like racism, ableism, orientation, etc.,” in our schools.
Then we have the TSA which spent $900 million – almost a $1 billion! – over the last five years on behavior detection officers. Their job is to detect terrorists in airports. Five years and $900 million later, they've detected zero terrorists. Zero. In light of this fact, the Government Accountability Office recommends that Congress put an end to this program. The technique of behavioral profiling isn't bad, but the private sector could do it a lot more effectively and less costly.
The government isn't good at a lot of things, but it has perfected the art of spending a lot of money on projects that don't necessarily gain us any return on investment.
A Bad Deal On Iran
Over the weekend, the United States along with five other countries agreed to a deal on Iran's nuclear capabilities. The only people who seem very pleased with the deal are the Iranians and the Obama administration. Should that worry us?
Here are the basics of what this deal entails:
Iran will not have to give up virtually any aspect of its current nuclear endeavors, but would simply be forced to temporarily stop certain portions of its nuclear program. For example, it must stop the installation of new centrifuges but it can still construct centrifuges and does not require them to get rid of any current centrifuges. It must cap its stockpile of enriched uranium but it gets to keep its enriched uranium and continue enrichment at low levels. It agrees not to commission its heavy water reactor in Arak, capable of producing weapons-grade plutonium, but it keeps the reactor in place. It must agree to new, enhanced inspections but this assumes we can trust that they will give access to ALL relevant material and no secret sites exist.
In return, Iran will see an ease of $7 billion in economic sanctions (some say that figure is closer to $20 billion), which is what brought them to the bargaining table to begin with. If Iran adheres to the agreement, in return they will not see increased sanctions placed upon various aspects of their economy.
In other words, the current deal does nothing to stop Iran's future nuclear ambitions (this is just temporary) and it certainly doesn't diminish anything that they currently have in place. So the world gets no concessions while Iran reaps the benefits of lifted sanctions. Is this supposed to be a win-win for the world?
So what does all of this mean? Some believe that this deal will still lead to Iran becoming a nuclear state, only delayed by a little time. K.T. McFarland writes, “It would seem inevitable then, that in the years ahead Iran will become a de facto nuclear state, and a nuclear arms race in the Middle East will ensue. The prudent thing now is for the United States to make plans accordingly ...” An arms race in the Middle East … is that really the legacy Obama (the Nobel Peace prize winner) wants to leave us with?
Keeping Focused on ObamaCare
There are some who speculate that the timing of the Iranian nuclear deal is quite suspicious and happened now in order to distract from the disaster that is ObamaCare. I wouldn't put it past this administration, who is so deeply concerned about controlling the message.

Obama Sinks With ObamaCare
If Obama was intending to excite the base last night on his conference call with Organizing for Action - which was mired by its own technical glitches - he apparently failed to do so. I've heard the call described as "morose" or "lack luster." He even misspoke and claimed that over 100 million Americans had already enrolled in ObamaCare. But the call was anything but "inspiring" or "exciting." I can't blame him. After all, the failed rollout of ObamaCare and its exchanges has led to a plummeting of Obama's approval rating. A new poll today from ABC/Washington Post has Obama's approval at an all-time low for their records at just 42%. As ObamaCare stumbles out of the gate and Obama's lies are exposed, his approval sinks like a rock. These numbers reflect a 13 point drop just this year and a 6 point drop in the past month alone. In fact, the numbers are so bad that if the 2012 election were held today, Mitt Romney would be elected president . That's stunning.Polls numbers are sinking all around the president. ObamaCare has its highest disapproval rating to date with 57% of Americans opposed to the law. In a dramatic shift, a new Gallup poll finds that a majority of Americans (56%) no longer believe it is the government's role to make sure that all Americans have healthcare, which is a record high. That has reversed since 2009, before ObamaCare was passed.
What's In A Poll?
Speaking of the ABC/Washington Post poll: The number of Americans who believe the country is on the wrong track is up 13 points in the last six months, reaching 70% in the latest poll. Obama's numbers related to his honesty, trustworthiness and leadership are all down dramatically. He's lost significant support (at least 20 points since January) among two key core constituencies: Independents and young people. A notable difference this time around is that Obama's popularity has sunk as well; no longer are Americans separating his failed policies from the man himself. I also want to point out something that the Democrats are doing and that is pulling away from the use of the word "ObamaCare." It's become a semi-joke, but it seems as though many Americans do not understand that there is a difference between ObamaCare and the Affordable Care Act. The problem for Democrats is that ObamaCare has become associated with the negative aspects of the rollout, incompetence, etc. So after embracing ObamaCare for a time, Democrats have seemingly decided to switch back to the Affordable Care Act and pray that many Americans aren't aware that we are really talking about the same thing. So it goes in Washington.
Gettysburg Address: 150 Years Later
Today marks the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The famous remarks were made in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1863 and marked a pivotal point in this nation's history. As many gather to reflect on this day, there is one person whose presence is notably absent from any related events: Barack Obama. For a president who has often been compared, and tied himself, to Lincoln, the snub has rubbed many the wrong way. Instead, Obama will remain in Washington to address the Wall Street Journal CEO Council's annual meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel. Even if Obama himself did not make the decision not to commemorate this occasion, somebody in the White House should have the good sense to realize the optics of Obama's absence. It's yet another misstep for an administration that could use all the help it can get. Americans of past and present deserve better, particularly on this historic day.
What Are They Doing in DC?
I've been telling you for months about just how bad ObamaCare is. We've shared stories about hardworking men and women who've lost their coverage and just how tough it is for President Obama to recover from the latest failures of the new law. Now there's the story of Michael Cerpok. Michael is a small business owner who has been diagnosed with leukemia. His month-to-month expenses are $4,500 and his insurance company pays the rest of his estimated $26,000 a month in healthcare costs. Until now. As of January 1st, Cerpok's insurance company is dropping his coverage because of "new regulations related to the Affordable Healthcare Act." This leaves the Michael and his wife the daunting task of working two or three jobs each just to stay alive. Stories like this one really leave me with the question, what are they doing in DC? To watch an interview with Cerpok, clickhere.
The IRS Isn't Alone!
The IRS has deservedly received a lot of flack for its outrageous conferences including parody videos, unnecessary swag and high-end perks, costing the taxpayers millions of dollars throughout the years. But the IRS isn't alone. Let's take a look at some conference spending by the Department of Health and Human Services. In 2012 alone, the Health and Human Services Department spent $56 million on 135 conferences. To put that in context, that is $6 million more than the IRS spent on conferences between 2010 and 2012.These HHS conferences ranged from Head Start meetings to diversity seminars and cost an average of $416,000 per event. Two Washington DC conferences on "healthcare in rural America" cost the taxpayers $320,000. Is this type of spending even useful. Bureaucrats seem very eager to spend big bucks when its your tax dollars at their disposal. Take a look here for more information.
ObamaCare Enrollment In Perspective
The first ObamaCare numbers have been released by this administration and they are a down-right embarrassment. Only 106,000 Americans have signed up for ObamaCare as of November 2nd, and remember that this includes those who have packages sitting in their shopping carts but have yet to be purchased. Many people have come up with events or comparisons to demonstrate just how pathetic these initial enrollee figures truly are. Here are some examples from CNS News: Only 106,000 Americans signed up for ObamaCare but ... 107,000 homes were foreclosed in Florida alone, June 2012-June 2013. 307,000 women in the US got breast augmentation surgery in 2011. 350,000 Barbie dolls were sold in the first year of production, 1959. 1,400,000 people are employed by Wal-Mart in America. 32,000,000 people visit Drudge Report every day. The bottom line is that these enrollment figures are an epic failure for the Obama administration.
Dems Flee from Obama, Obamacare
Another day and we have another broken Obamcare promise. After the disastrous rollout of the Obamacare exchanges, we were promised by this administration that the website would be fully functional by the end of November; we just had to give them until the end of November to fix the “glitches.” Believe it or not, the end of November is already upon us and we are now being told that the administration will notmeet its end of November deadline . Seriously? Sadly, this is what we've come to expect now from this administration.
What's the point of making promises if they aren't expected to be kept? Who can we trust in Washington any more to hold firm to their words or their campaign promises. Perhaps the only ones I can think of right now are those conservatives like Ted Cruz and others who went to Washington and actually did what they promised they would do: fight to repeal Obamacare. He wasn't the only one who made that promise to his constituents yet he was only one of a few who was actually willing to follow through on that promise. Yet somehow he was demonized as the “extremist” or the “radical.” Looks who is extreme or radical now? This week has been a disaster for Obamacare among members of his own party. We aren't even talking about Republicans or conservatives any more. Obamacare has become a toxic issue for liberals and many are trying to distance themselves from Obama himself.
I still maintain that at this point, what is best for the country is a full repeal of the law. Obamacare, even if it “works,” is fundamentally flawed and will not result in better, more affordable care for Americans. It's not fixable. Conservatives can and must do better about articulating healthcare alternatives because Obamacare is simply not an option…more
The Ugly Polls
A lot of polling has been released this week, and it doesn't look good for nearly anyone in Washington, particularly Barack Obama. According to the latest Quinnipiac University polling, Obama's approval rating has hit an all-time low. Obama's disapproval rating has hit 54%, with just 39% approving of his handling of the presidency. But it gets even worse for the president. A majority of Americans (52%) believe that Obama is not honest or trustworthy. This echoes a similar poll conducted by Gallup which shows that the president's honesty and trustworthiness has dipped among the American public. That same Gallup poll found that Obama's image as a “strong and decisive” leader has dropped six points since September to just 47%. Congress overall is enjoying its lowest approval rating EVER since Gallup began tracking it 39 years ago. Only 9% of Americans approve of Congress in this moment. Whether it was the shutdown or the debt ceiling or Obamacare, what's clear is that Americans aren't too happy with Washington…more
On Monday's Mark Levin Show: Mark explains that the American people never voted for Obamacare - it was passed by a tyrannical government that wants to take the individual's decision making ability away from them. Mark says that they've used the law to essentially destroy our health care system where there is no recourse because after all, it is the law. This is a massive social experiment where they are using us as subjects to test out this grand healthcare scheme, which we already see can not work. Also, Mark asks what kind of government would put the IRS in charge of enforcing healthcare? Is it a government that is looking out for its people? President Obama visited the War Memorial Monday and Arlington National Cemetery - the same place that he closed during the government shut down because he doesn't respect our Veterans or military. Mark honors our veterans by playing the military hymns and God Bless America. Finally, Sarah Palin calls in about hew new book, Good Tidings and Great Joy.

Obamacare's Washington Math
We are awaiting the official figures this week of how many Americans have bought into Obamacare. The reports are that less than 50,000 Americans have managed to enroll in the federal Obamacare exchange. This is a far cry from the 500,000 the administration predicted by the end of October. Numbers in the state exchanges aren't expected to be much better, around 49,000 enrollees. Reuters points out that this figure represents just 3% of the administration's enrollment target for 2014. It was expected that 7 million Americans nationwide would sign up for Obamacare by the 2014 target date.Jamie Dupree has a good run down of how the exchanges are fairing in each of the states that chose to set them up. This includes Oregon – with $3.2 million worth of hipster songs promoting Covered Oregon – which has yet to enroll a single person into the program!
But when the figures are released, how will we know that they are even accurate? Yet again, Washington is pulling out its magic calculator. This time it is to calculate the number of Americans enrolled in Obamacare. According to the Washington Post, the Obama administration is changing the definition of who is considered “enrolled” in Obamacare. It turns out that you don't have to actually pay for Obamacare to be considered enrolled in Obamacare! According to an administration official, “In the data that will be released this week, ‘enrollment’ will measure people who have filled out an application and selected a qualified health plan in the marketplace.” So if you actually manage to get onto the website and browse for a plan, and a plan is sitting in your shopping cart but you've yet to pay for it, you would be counted as being “enrolled” in Obamacare.
The number of enrollees is a problem, along with the lack of competition, which will lead to these rising premium prices. The Heritage Foundation points out that this is another broken promise associated with Obamacare. Based on their analysis, “In more than half of the counties in the U.S., people have only one or two insurance carriers offering coverage on their exchanges.” Yet another broken promise. I'm not expecting another half-hearted apology from the president.
Defrauding, Security & Scams Under Obamacare
If you do nothing else today, take the time to watch the latest undercover investigation by Project Veritas. This is relates to Obamacare navigators. An undercover investigation at an Obamacare navigator site in Texas found navigators suggesting that you lie on your form about your health habits and income status in order to achieve lower premiums or higher Obamacare subsidies. The investigation also finds a supposedly non-project, non-partisan navigator group – Enroll America – that claims direct ties to the DNC and actively works with an organization to turn Texas into a Blue state. What's amazing is that $67 million of your tax dollars has been spent on these Obamacare navigators. Yet as we found out from Kathleen Sebelius last week, these people don't even have to pass background checks in order to qualify as a navigator. This means that convicted felons, for example, may have access to your most private information...more
