They'll kill what a panel suggested if you don't get involved
Think about this...a blue ribbon panel, made up of a former Chief Justice of The Florida Supreme Court and a former President of the American Bar Association spent months interviewing, reviewing conduct and allegations, studying and researching. They were assembled to determine what, if anything, should be done to enhance the ethical standards of Tallahassee government conduct on a myriad of topics.
The end result? 7-2. The vote was that Tallahassee have an independent ethics officer. There were other strong recommendations, but they all revolve around that one, singular suggestion. Make sure an officer charged with dealing with ethics be autonomous.
Tomorrow the City Commissioners will look at City staff (who makes up the staff making these suggestions?) recommendations. It should come as no surpise that staff does NOT WANT an independent ethics officer. But, there's more and Tallahassee Reports is covering it and I discussed it this morning.
