Search for New FSU Leader Begins with an Apology

The search for a new leader at Florida State University begins with an apology from the outgoing president. During a special meeting of the FSU trustees Wednesday, Eric Barron said he was sorry for the way they found out he was heading to Penn State.

Unlike Florida, Pennsylvania allows state universities to conduct a presidential search in secret. As a result, FSU trustees did not know Barron was leaving until word leaked out Friday. The official announcement was made Monday. There's a clause in Barron's FSU contract requiring 180 days notice before he can resign, but the trustees decided they won't hold him to it. Barron's final day at Florida State will be April 2nd.
